travellab.xls::: travel_lan> introductionshared resource development & knowledge based cultural cooperation/production, direct learning and knowledge exchange. In networked environments it seems that they are neither individualistic nor collective agencies, but rather connective ones. Whereas the collective is ideally characterised by an intentional and empathetic relation between agents within an assemblage, the connective rests on any kind of machinic relation and is therefore more versatile, more open, and based on the heterogeneity of its components or members. The challenge in computer-based design today is to understand not only the new topologies of form and of presence, but to tackle the problems of agency and events in connective translocal environments. This public spheres will only come into being if there are complex forms of interaction, of participation and learning, that fully exploit the technical possibilities of the networks and that allow for new and creative forms of becoming present, becoming visible, becoming active, in short, of becoming-public. The travel_lan is conceived as an open-source development-platform for shared mobile networking and the creative use of digital technology in the context of globalized workflows of collaboration, competition and coopetition. Reflecting the role of digital technology and a coherent shifting of structures in communication in 21st centuries societies, the aim is to establish sustainable intercultural connectivity and resourceflow based on standard exchange and the use of newly developing cultural key technologies of environmental creation. As documentation may be seen as the only tangible, somewhat-static byproduct of new media art practices, one of the desired outputs will be a network_manual or catalogue - based on interdisciplinary and cultural exchange - dedicated to give a structured overview and to create a resource base for global participation and economic standard exchange. Fed into a Content Management System, the manual will provide information on key technologies and social models according to the variation of their usage > the travel_lan projectThe travel_lan is a mobile media/net laboratory for divergent purposes. In a networked design study a computed mobile environment shall be developed. It is concerned about audiovisual work/rework but also thought as tool for educational purposes in international and open source environments. The project shall fit different contexts and be elaborated to the point of a satisfying design, that fits to cultural exchange and translocal networking. It functions as a mobile laboratory itself and is connected to continuously updated online databases. In a first phase the idea of the kernel resources are going to be established as different setups for different purposes, that are remotely bootable, to ease installation and online connectivity to the database and the content management system. On a level of advanced resource share the travel_lan project is done in phases for a flexible conception, development and instant evaluation. In the fields of direct exchange and project development on location the studies will foster the creation of interfaces and models of cooperation for social benefits in networking. > 3 phasesEach phase is instantly evaluated and bears new information and knowledge for the next phase of development. Each phase can be handled as intermediate reconception. Ia communication setup
Ib project setup
II temporary workspace on kernel resources and bootable configurations 2 weeks in spring 3003
III tl_lan workshops on location in latinamerica following phase 1 the workshops can be described exactly. 1st project phase - exchange program > evaluationAs a demonstration project-model the travel_lan is run as design studies on mobile networking and aims to evaluate models of active participation in shared resource development. To maintain sustainability and selfsufficiency of networking after the project phases is a structural aim to foster further exchange and a shared and conitnously updated database for activities and knowledge transfer. Model of Understanding on Shared Resource Development > the project :The travel_lan research and design-studies are hosted by an interdisciplinary and international network. Aiming to establish sustainable networking and communication by temporary project-development on severall locations, a series of projects are featured as evaluable content and input to the discussion on Networking as a new cultural discipline. The travel_lan project is engaging in direct exchange in telematic and global cultures, from a perspective of changing circumstances and workflows of participation in shared resource development. Dedicated to reduce digital gaps, the travel_lan project is researching in new models of learning, cultural exchange, new media and networking through mobile interfaces, tools and an online-database, whereas the travel_lan shall demonstrate and evaluate new models for crosscultural networking. > workflow :Each of the three phases - communication setup, design workshop, installation - of the travel_lan project is instantly evaluated and bears new information and knowledge for the next phase in development. Each phase can be handled as intermediate reconception and update of the conceptual framework. |
