> initiative for cultural exchange & computer arts / chiang mai

ICECA - 'Initiative for Cultural Exchange and Computer Arts' is an official collaborative project between the Chiang Mai University Art Museum and European artists network travellab associates aimed at creating an artistic Language and Media Arts laboratory in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. (see ::: ICECA structure.gif)

Since July 2002 ICECA is officially supported by the Chiang Mai University Art Museum and is operating in Thailand. ICECA activities in Thailand are coordinated locally by Media Artist Francis Wittenberger and supported from Europe by 'travellab'.

The ICECA Project will foster cross-cultural exchange (::: 1  ::: 2  ::: 3  ::: 4) by means of  language, new media and collaborative networking. ICECA is meant to provide technical and aesthetic knowledge about computer/media arts and provide necessary courses in computer English and computer languages for Thai participants, based on an exchange programme (i.e. European Artists will visit Thailand for short periods of 3-8 weeks and will share their know-how and expertise with Thai Artists and Students free of charge for Thai artists and students).

ICECA is prepared to ::: provide accommodation for its visiting guests (up to 3 persons at a time) at the "ICECA / KUNSTPUNKT HOUSE" sponsored by the Berlin based Gallery "::: KUNSTPUNKT BERLIN" owned and directed by Mr. Guenter Herpel.

ICECA plans to extend its technical facilities based on its cooperation with the CMU Art Museum and share its resources with the CMU Art Museum's emerging Media Center by finding additional sponsors allowing ICECA to equip and run a small scale digital media art laboratory for digital video, animation, digital music, computer and electronic arts. (see travellab projects ::: 1)

ICECA will be utilizing its European artists network (travellab associates and others ::: 1  ::: 2  ::: 3) and hopes to become an active local resource catering qualified artists and guest lecturers who are interested in sharing their knowledge with Thai artists.

"ICECA" will start its full scale activity during CMSI 2002 (::: 1  ::: 2 ) taking place at CMU art museum, Dec 2002 - Feb. 2003

"ICECA", "CMU Art Museum" and "travellab associates" are non profit, (artistic) organizations thus the funding for the above activities are planned to be raised from external sources thus we ,ICECA and CMU Art Museum , hereby kindly ask for your support for this important activity. Donations should be forwarded directly to CMU Art Museum to ICECA Project.
